the art of letting go

For a long time now I've been consumed with wanting my past to float away to make room for my future. But I realize now that that's not how it works.

You have to embrace every messy aspect of your life in order to move past it.

And yes, it will at times be awful. It will feel like you are reliving the parts of your existence that you never wanted to think about again.

But the art of letting go means not letting go at all. It means moving past it.

black lives matter.

I have always, and will always, believe that everyone is equal in this world.

Surrounding myself with people who believe the same things have sheltered me from the harsh reality that it's not a reality at all.

The time for change was years ago. It was a lifetime ago.

Don't wake up and allow this to happen. We have a voice and it's time to use it. We control our actions and it's time to make a difference.

Black lives matter.

They will always matter. Even if the news headlines aren't flooded with the hashtag.

Wake up and realize that we are all equal. The colour of your skin does not define who you are. The colour of your skin does not define how you should treat somebody.

It's so easy to look the other way when it doesn't affect you. But it does.

Black lives matter.

Remember that.

opinions

We live in a day and age where our voices are sometimes used instead of actions. Where screaming that you are a good person somehow translates that message more so than actually going out and proving it.

Something I've come to realize though is just because you have your individualised opinion does not mean that its the truth. The world we live in now finds any reason to tear people down, and I am nothing more than a teenager at their keyboard at 1 o'clock in the morning tired of it all.

Where did the days go where 'cancel culture' wasn't the main focus of people's lives? I understand that we are a social generation, in the term that we are glued to the screen in front of us, but what happened to sharing the good rather than laughing at the bad.

People are obsessed these days with finding the next thing to add to the neverending list of social embarrassments.

Speaking from personal experience, I think I've lost the ability to make real human connections easily. Everything is so calculated these days and honestly trying to find the good can be hard. But it's so worth doing.

Over the past few years, we have been encouraged to use our voices because it's been labeled as our most powerful weapon. That's not true anymore. It's time that we all take a step back, retreat into what we know and leave certain things and certain people alone. If you want to help, do. But not at the expense of anyone else.

It can't be all talk. Prove yourself through actions.

Not all things need to be said. Let certain things rest.

Save your opinion for things that truly do matter, because I promise you, not everything does.

N O W / / S A L T Y W A L K S

So time fly's when you forget to live in the present.

Lately I've found myself not enjoying the now, which is a shame because in the month of July, that's all I was doing; and it was amazing.

I'm not someone who stresses, but in that month I realised that I am someone who worries. I worry, fix the problem that I created in my own head, and then move on with life. I blame these worries on me living in the past and in the future, however I'll give you a tip, if you want to be happy, focus on what's happening the current moment, and nothing else.

It seems easy until you do it. But I urge you to try.

I don't mean to sound cliche but it did change my life. Days seemed longer, and life seemed good.

I'm trying to fall back into that rhythm, but until then...

I'll see you next time, V

. . . | S A L T Y W A L K S

We are so busy creating a future we forget to live.

Just remember that you are living now as well, and while spending $30 and going out with friends seems like a strange idea, because you could invest that into your future, just remember, there is no point saving for a life that we can't see. Just try to have to some fun with it.

Live life how you plan to live it later. It doesn't matter if you splurge. Just enjoy.

And while some may say life is short, just remember that it is the longest thing that you will ever experience.

But it passes by so quickly.

Love it. Because I know that I haven't been recently. But I'm changing that.
